Mot Vong Trai Dat (English Translation)

Ok here is the English Translation of this song.

Just a brief overview.

This is a story of a Vietnamese lady that is inlove with (I think) an American man, They are both inlove but are separated by the distance of the earth, The reason I believe it is an American man as the title of the song is "Half Way Around the Earth" and From Central Vietnam to Central USA is exactly halfway around the earth. The two are communicating via the internet and phone calls and seems with the technology, to be only a short distance apart. (thus the glass wall in the video). but indeed living almost in two different worlds. Both are unsure if they can hold on to their love together until they can come back together forever, or even if they will still love each other after the long time of separation, after they are reunited. It is made reference of promising on the moon and stars. However in their locations they can never see them at the same time. ( Trust me I know this one, we tried, not possible )

OK I think you get the jest of the song.

Both my wife and myself can relate to this cong as we spent 3 years of separation waiting until she could get her Visa approved to come be with me. It felt like prison, and you cant imagine the pain and worry that one can go thru feeling so helpless to help each other in the times of need, sorrow and loneliness. But to be sure, I would have waited as long at it took, as she was well worth the wait, neither of us regret faithfully waiting for each other.

Yes you are almost correct.

However we did not make a word for word literal translation. As to say "one around the earth" first is not proper English. and second it does not fit to the other dialect of the song, as then how could the part that is talking about both sides of the earth sitting next to each other come into play ? and also destroy the part where they are talking about the shortest distance is around the earth?

For a literal translation, we would have translated things quite different. Like the word "Anh", which in literal translation means "older brother" and the word "Em" means "younger sister" So seeing that we were making a meaningful translation for the full understanding of the English speaking person, we felt it better to not translate literally, as the Normal English speaking person would think that the this song was about a Younger sister that was romantically inlove with her older brother.
