An ambulance going through New York filmed from the hotel Affinia 50 that I stayed in when I went to New York. I'm very dissapointed how bad quality is, to let you know I have the Sony DCR-SR35 Handycam, anyone else have that camera and finds the quality not so good?

  • Yes, I can tell you why the ambulance says FDNY on it. The NYC Emergency Medical Service is now a sub-division of the FDNY. Therefore, all of the city's public EMS ambulances say FDNY on them. The NYC-EMS actually use to be a totally separate department, apart from the FDNY, but sometimes working in conjunction with them. In the mid 90's the FDNY and EMS "merged". They called it a "merge" but in reality it was a takeover. FDNY assumed full control of the EMS, and now EMS is treated like dirt.

  • Thanks, when you say "...treated like dirt." do you mean stuff like they dont give them much pay and dont look after vehicles well?

  • Well it's true that the EMT's and paramedics don't get paid very well, but I also don't feel they get the respect that they deserve from the fire department. Perhaps it's because they drive around in ambulances that say FDNY and wear uniforms that say FDNY, yet they are not firefighters. So they are viewed by the fire dept. as "wanna-be" firefighters, who are below the level of "real" FDNY personnel. But many of them don't want to be firefighters! They want to be EMS! That's why they joined.

  • Ah... that means HIGH QUALITY.. No it's free... try it c'mon!!

  • all thsi talk about how Firefigthers treat EMS like dirt im glad that where i live most all the Firefigtehrs are also EMT and Medics so the ones that are just EMTs are respected by most FDs

  • Englands is still better, especially the hi-low siren

  • Ahhh, much better than a French siren...America is where it's at!

  • @mrderekevan Everything that you wrote about EMS getting treated like dirt is right, they don't have as much respect as anyone else, yet they save lives.

  • Lol nobody even bothered to stop walking out into the road. Courteous New Yorkers.

  • @moviesunrated - Basically, they dont get good equipment, and the benefits suck. Every new apparatus goes to buying new engine but not new ambulances.

  • what kind of siren does the FDNY Ambulance use?

  • The merger was the same time around as when NYC Housing Authority Police and NYC Transit Police merged with NYCPD and it just became NYPD.

  • @mrderekevan Correct, they had their own identity when they were NYC EMS. Your right that firefighter can't judge a book by it's cover in fact FDNY EMS is the best EMS in the known world doing over 1.2 million calls per year. EMT's and Paramedics work very hard long hours and for dirt pay but most love what they do and that's what counts the most. Saving lives everyday where's the joke in that.

  • @RBFF123 You're right about the firefighters often treating the EMS like dirt, and thinking the EMS is a joke. I think the EMS got a little more respect when it was a separate department altogether, with their own emblems, their own ambulances, and their own name. I bet that if the firefighter who didn't hold the door got badly hurt on the job, and was being rushed to the hospital by an EMS ambulance, while being kept alive by EMS personnel, he might not think EMS was such a joke anymore.
