Then, I remembered- I should try and sense whether or not they were human. I stretched that part of my mind to where Nick was standing and- there was nothing. It was as if no one was there at all. The spot was empty. Unless that part of my brain had decided to take a nap, I knew what this meant, and I was afraid of it.
Jakes words came back to me. If youre not sure, that means you love them. If you cant sense anything around them, not even that they exist, then theyre your other half. Your soul mate. For the love of God, how could this happen? I have a soul mate? How cliché is that? Is that even possible? Nicks voice snapped me out of my trance.
So, what song was that you were playing before? I didnt recognize it, he said. I blushed deep crimson. Which was weird. I didnt know vampires could blush. Apparently neither did Jake, because shock registered on his face when he saw mine.
Um I wrote it. I was going through kind of a tough time. One of those moments where something big happens, and after that, you dont really know who you are anymore, I responded. I had never outright told anyone else why I wrote that song- Id always made them figure it out themselves. Now I had just told a complete stranger, who was my soul mate, but didnt know it yet. He looked impressed.
You wrote that? It was amazing! he said sincerely.
Thanks. Youre actually the first one to think so. Everyone else only says it because they want to make me feel good, but they all think its too depressing. I can tell from their faces. I guess it is a little depressing ok a lot but it doesnt have to be upbeat to be a decent song right? I spoke, half intending the words for him, half trying to convince myself I had musical talent. After becoming a vampire, music was all I had left.
Im kind of counting on that, Nick said, I write songs too. Some of them arent exactly a sunny day in the park. I laughed at his choice of words.
Play me one? I asked, raising an eyebrow as if daring him to say no. He shrugged.
Sure. Jake and Lola had walked out, I just now noticed.
Play me one of the ones that, well, as you said, isnt exactly a sunny day in the park. He nodded and started to play softly.

What song do you think he's gonna play? Guess before you read the next one, even if it is posted before you read it. It might not be posted until later, I'm supposed to go out to eat in like 5 min, and that's how long WMM takes to save a video.
