5 days after meeting and defeating the Disciple in a titanic battle between that Boss and my Level 47 Mage, I apply the lessons learnt to my far weaker Rogue.
Video start shows gear and skills. This is an all-purpose survive/defeat-anything build, so the choice of skills may seem odd, but is effective against any foe in DAL so far. Gear is, of course, the usual drop loot and Windfall items - not even any Legendary Raid gear.
As can be seen, I consider taking Varence (higher-level but no Magic Shield) versus Morrigan more Agility but lower-leve) and eventually pick Morrigan.
In summary, the Boss battle can be done with NPC allies, one NPC Rogue with Throw Voice and archery (Sendis is the best for this) and another NPC Mage with Life Drain/Weaken/Stinging Swarm (Cerlais, Morrigan or Varence will do). Defensive spells are nice to have but as can be seen, I never needed to use them.
Once the final wave is reached, use Throw Voice to keep the Disciple attacking its allies. Then hit the Disciple as hard and as quickly as you can - once it runs out of mana, it will Drain its allies, healing itself and shortening the time you have left to defeat it, before it turns its power on you!
- Do not use Acid Bombs in that wave, it will allow the Disciple to slay its allies more quickly
- Do not attack the Disciple's Qunari allies at all. Concentrate fully on the Disciple until it is beaten.
The fact that my character is also a Rogue with Throw Voice and archery makes it even easier, but at the end of the day - even a Level 35 Warrior can do this with the right moves, despite NPC allies and ordinary gear.
There are some waves where I have to make some tactical choices (those are the parts where I pause to consider the turn sequence of enemies) and the Frost/Shock Bombs are useful for those bits.
So, for all players who worry about not being high-enough-level to beat this Boss...this video should help.
