Richard Chase's situation was not hallucinations. He had delusions in highschool about his penis and why he could not have an erection, and it manifested as he got older. Reason they were so bizarre was because of his heavy drug use which trigged Schizophrenia. Probably had a genetic link to Schizophrenia that could trigger due to stress, drug use, age. Ironically he had full criteria of Conduct disorder as a child, and anti-social personality disorder.
