More than 32 years after his untimely death in a gun accident, friends, fans, bandmates and other musicians gathered at William H. Taft High School in Chicago, IL on May 27, 2010 to stage a concert in tribute to Terry Kath, former guitarist, singer and composer with the jazz-rock band Chicago.

Headliners included: Danny Seraphine, original drummer with Chicago; James William Guercio, Chicago's first producer and manager; and Kenny Cetera, brother of Chicago bassist and now solo artist Peter Cetera. They were joined by Chicago cover bands 25 or 6 to 4 and the 95th Street Band, as well as guitarist Tom Vienna and drummer Nick Morrone.

Kath's solo on the Chicago hit 25 or 6 to 4 is perhaps his best-known guitar work, while vocally he sang on the hits Make Me Smile, Color My World and Wishing You Were Here. However, his true talents came through best on several Chicago album cuts -- on guitar in songs such as Free Form Guitar, Poem 58, Liberation, Sing a Mean Tune, Kid, Oh, Thank You, Great Spirit and Uptown and on vocals in songs such as Introduction, Movin' In, Make Me Smile, It Better End Soon, An Hour in the Shower, Now That You've Gone, Dialogue, Alma Mater and Hope for Love.

Here, Danny Seraphine and 25 or 6 to 4 appropriately begin the tribute with the first song on the first Chicago album (Chicago Transit Authority): Introduction, written and sung by Kath.

  • You don't have to guess what the "K" on Danny's shirt represents. Why it stands for "KATH" and sits over Danny's heart for his close friend and fellow musician. "THANK YOU", Danny, Kenny and Jim for making this "Tribute" special for all Kath fans. May his legacy live on at Taft High School on the northwest side of Chicago. Now Danny can say that he shared the stage with Terry, even at his old high school. Terry's spirit flies over the stage like an "EAGLE"

  • @provpalermo I'm wondering whether the "K" is actually for a line of Zildjian cymbals, I could be wrong ...

  • I have to tell all of you - I WAS THERE - and it was fabulous. Next year, I am going to be bold and get personal photos and autographs. It was great to see legends Seraphine & Guercio. And I could see all of Peter Cetera in his younger brother Kenny. Great time and can't wait 'till next year. You all ought to make the trip.

  • @gsjaslovsky I'll second that motion - don't miss it next year.

  • The trumpeter really nails the trumpet solo very nicely. The guitarist does a superb job too. Danny Seraphine has always been a masterful drummer....one of the best in rock history!

  • SUPERBO! Yes, Guercio was the man for this band. Thank God Danny keeps that original spirit alive. Hands down my favorite drummer along with Buddy Rich - of all-time.

  • How on God's green earth could you NOT like Danny Seraphine's musicianship. I love Chicago, but I darn sure do miss him in it...and Peter..and Terry...and Bill, darn it!....and heck, and Laudir for all that matters. I don't know who's pulling what for those guys these days, but I'm sorry...these guys got to get back one mo' time before its too late. And, oh yeah, JWG...they might've "got tired" of him, but he is the man for these guys. NO ONE can compare (yeah, I'm lookin' at YOU Shivarelli).

  • Fer cryin' out loud! - please post the aforementioned tunes show-casing Terry's talent - especially SING A MEAN TUNE KID.

  • Kath was a part of Chicago I wasn't aware of until I was awair of it, that is, most think of Chigago as # 14 until you hear Kath and then it's Rock on CTA-13~! Intro to Terry Kath's Chicago Transit Authority-13!

  • bloody great covers, if only bands wrote songs like this nowadays and worked so well together, well done guys

  • @teegeemedia But, what if it's for both? Sure, Zildjian could have made it but since it doesn't strait-up say Zildjian it works for both ;)

  • Probably no accident Danny wore the "K" shirt in honor of Kath. Avedas Zildjian was the first Zildjian to produce cymbals in 1623 Constantinople. Constantinople became Istanbul and that's where K Zildjian cymbals were originally produced by Kerope Zildjian. K's were later reintroduced in the U.S. as Zildjian's "hand hammered" line although I'm fairly certain they are now done by machine.

  • its beautiful to see all these people come to celebrate the momory of Terry Kath, he'll always be my favorite member of Chicago RIP Brother
