I have used this way for a few years now I am 12 and feed my dogs warm rice along with their food during winter for easy to see reason and just was bored and saw this haha did not know I was using a actual thing that other people did of guys you can also boil water in a tall glass or mug to boil eggs or other things it helps if you use minute rice.
I cook my rice in a microwave container with lid. About 125 grams with usually more water than the rice can absorb. After 15 minutes of cooking, I just let it drip off and it's done. :D Sometimes I need to rince off the microwave plate because of it does spill over at times. But not having to watch it or cleaning a pot is worth it. :)
So you can cook rice in the same amount of time in the microwave as it takes to cook on a stovetop in a pan after the water starts boilng. What use is cooking it in the microwave. You are supposed to be able to cook stuff faster in fhe microwave, It took him 2\0 minutes in the microwave. It takes 20 minutes on the stovetop too.

Would one mug take half the time to cook?

@JerryWE the reason why I'm watching this is because I'm temporarily staying in a place that has a microwave but no oven or stove.
So this video is actually very helpful to me.
