The downside from what I've seen is that the students may not learn what is actually going on. I can't imagine that one week was enough to explain what happens at the hardware level when you make an if statement in high-level languages.

The teamwork stress is great as well. Working in teams has always been a good experience for me.

I might suggest skipping testing week haha. Wait until it's too late to introduce the frustration of finding your bugs!

I like the idea of starting freshman on a project. I am in a computer engineering course in the states and at first I wasn't sure if it was what I wanted. It took a year and a half to really get into the interesting components of this field and now I love it. I think working through a product lifecycle in the first few weeks or even first semester is brilliant.

Excellent video, kept my attention the whole way through. Very inspiring work. You have alot of pride in your students and rightly so, the project seems to have been a rewarding experience for both students and lecturers alike. Its amazing to see what can be achieved in the write environment.

When i was at university i disliked the hardware modules but i would definetly have found it more interesting if it were presented in a practical hands on approach like this.
