Dayanand:
HIV is not the end of the world
The experiences of HIV infected people have shown that HIV is not the end of the world. Cultivating positive attitude towards life is very important .Taking care of ones health, accepting ones health status, keeping in mind ones vulnerability to diseases and the determination to live a productive life will enable one to live several more fruitful years, says Mr. Dayanand Sharma, who is an HIV positive. ...
With this aim in mind, he began his work as a peer counselor in Sahara Michel Care Home. Later on he was invited by his mentor, Mr. Suneel Vatsyayan, Chairman of Nada India Foundation, an NGO, working for the welfare of adolescents, HIV/AIDS patients and Substance abuse, worked with him for two years as peer counselor for the poor and the street children. With proper counseling, training and education, he offered not only vital information on health topics but also provided shared experiences and inspiration of what is possible despite the diagnosis of a terminal illness. Nada India Outreach services, be it through individual or group interventions, allow service providers like him to literally "meet the client where they are at."
