A weekend trip to Hampshire, a completely different scene and flavour far from home soil, were I payed a visit to the Mid Hants Railway (Watercress Line) the line ran its Autumn steam gala. The gala marked the return of Jeremy Hoskin's 9F 2-10-0 92212, after a two year overhaul.
The line ran a fleet of guest engines including the national collection's 'Super D' 49395 and SR 850 Lord Nelson. The unrebuilt West Country light pacific 34007 Wadebridge and 92212 recreate a S&D double header service during the event.

On this occasion a late Indian summer had dropped in, with sunny spells and cloudless skys it was one event for photographers to be spoilt on. Many shots were filmed on various locations along the 10 mile line between Arlesford and Alton. Locations were tricky to get to when trying to stick to the suns side.

The line was a test bed to see what it be like to visit other preserved lines that are far flung distances from home, in the future.

  • I like Wadebridge with the two-coach local. A very convincing recreation of some Southern byways in the 60s.

  • It is very authentic, very much like the unrebuilt pacifics that used to run at Barnstable to Ilfracombe with 2 to 4 Bulleid coaches.

  • Great stuff Ryan... You was spoiled with the weather though... And I feel you should let us have the Super D back ;)

    Si

  • Cheers Si! The Super S was fun to shoot that day with nice sunshine, but she'l come back to your home ground I'm sure :D
