Back in 1775 the Marines main purpose was the defense of naval vessels .....

the Marines train for air,land,sea assault

also known as the presidents own (can be sent to war without an act of congress )

are the smallest branch of the armed forces

look up Marine Corps history you`ll find out they did more than they teach in history class

@lastswordfighter I think it might be that Marines are a bit like the Army and a bit like the Navy. The Marines fight on land and on sea, mostly when attack beaches.

Would someone please tell the difference real between a Marine and US Army Infantryman? I mean they wear a uniform, shoot at enemies, train to meet the necessary regulations and requirements, and take orders from the leaders. That not difference in concept from the two. In the end they are soldiers that's all.

@TheLamaguy89 it would be funny to see a Scottsman trying to play the pipes while running, diving, and taking cover in No Man's Land in WWI XD And the French in WWI would wear their gaudy red on their uniforms, PLUS almost all armies would carry their colors into battle until late 1917, best of which being the Stars and Stripes, second being the Union Jack! Don't get me wrong I love America, but I have heavy British ties. Hell, I'm a direct descendant of Sir Francis Drake!

I mean sure the Marines helped a MINOR amount in the revolution with John Paul Jones, and EVEN LESS in the Civil War, but truly correct that the US Marine Corps started to become the number one elite gun-ho fighting force we all know of today in WWI. Starting with Belleau Wood in 1917 near Chateau Thierre(??? I'm not French, I fight, and I don't just fight I'M AMERICAN!!! lol).
