My deviantART page: http://aoiyoru.deviantart.com/

This a series of two videos that demonstrate how to edit, screen tone, and enter text on a manga or comic book page using the free software Gimp. Gimp is a program that is a lot like photoshop, and is very efficient for comic making when used in the correct way.
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial! HERE IS PART 1 OF THIS TUTORIAL SERIES SO YOU CAN VIEW IT FIRST: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DsMQRJFyxFc

Thank you to Barbiefairy96 http://barbiefairy96.deviantart.com/ on deviantART for asking me about the software I use to edit my comic :D I hope this helps!

  • I know how to do that kind of gradient at gimp. You open a new file. Paint it with black and select the "gradient" icon. Once you have a black-grey-white gradient, select filters-"noise" (I don't know how does it appear in english, but in spanish is "ruido", HSV.

  • @90Snapy Awesome, I'll have to try that out some myself. Thank you for the tip :D It probably is noise in English as well because I think I remember seeing that option under the filters tab. And sweet, you're a Spanish speaker? I'm minoring in Spanish currently. It's a beautiful language.

  • how did u make the screen tone

  • @1leerick I actually got my screen tones from the site deviantART, where several users offer screen tones they've made to use for free. There are ways to make your own, and I've tried it in Gimp before, but I haven't found an effective way so far. If I do I might have to make another tutorial lol. I do know that there are ways to make them in photoshop, and you can also buy or order them and then scan them in and use them. Hope this helps answer your question :D

  • @Last0things0left thx alot ur awesome and so are ur vids :)

  • @lilpookie01111 Sorry this took me forever to answer :( And I drew them in pencil, inked them with traditional media, and then edited them in Gimp :D

  • @bumblesera I had a PC several years ago, but I've been using mostly macs for several years now. The main difference I remember is how smoothly everything runs. Macs seem to run faster with fewer glitches, update more smoothly, and require really no virus protection because they never get them. If you do plan to go into art as a career path, macs are considered industry standard, or so I've heard from several great sources. Supposedly the software is the main advantage for art program users.

  • @javatar2r Sorry for taking a little while to get back to you :/ I had work this morning and was busy with other stuff afterward. But anyways, the gradients I used actually came from the site deviantART, I believe. You could try going on that site and looking for them by searching "grit gradients". The artist that had them up had them packaged in a folder that you could download by clicking "download" beside the preview image. I hope this helps!

  • @Last0things0left hey did you make those gradients i actually just got gimp. and i dont know how to access that file with gradients, plz help

  • does gimp come with the gradient and other effects? and if not where can i get the basic ones?
