Very informative material I really enjoyed a well put together video; I am in the process of building an electric bicycle possibly the HUB WHEEL MOTOR TYPE.I live in the UK and I suppose we are seeing a lot more people with motorized push bikes.
Just one more thing as regards Batteries Li-on are the way to go more pricey but the benefits out way the cons.Cheers ; )

Good job Mike! I'm from China and see these e-bikes every day! You are welcome to check out my videos about e-bikes in China, they are the backbone of urban transportation in our cities.

Currently in NSW is 200W. They talking about raising that to 250W or even baning motorized bikes all together. If they raise the power, I'd say 400W is really needed to make it worth while.

Thanks, Paddy. I'm about to get my second E bike, an E lation an Aust. design which lets to motor benefit from the gears. it will be a better hill climber, but noisier.

Yes, EVs are good and will be no doubt by pleased by your comment. Another person near me has just bought one of theirs.

By the way, there is a bike fair in Melb. soon do you know when and where? Cheers, Mike

To make ebikes a more viable commute, they need to up the limits in line with USA to 750W / 32Km/h under motor. I can get to work from Hoppers Crossing to CBD, 30Km, on a 12Ah 36V LiFePO4 battery, in under 90 minutes. The motor is rated 200W at 24V. Overvolted Currie iZip

Hi purple dolpin. You technical expertise leaves me for dead. I guess you are saying that your 200watt rated bike is actually much more.

I agree the motors have to be more powerful. But the best we can hope for is that they'll up the legal limit to 250 watts in line with Europe.

The RTA in NSW is about to recommend that as you surely know. Cheers

Thanks Mike. I am also a road safety nut . There was a news article last week that compared the risk of serious injury or death in recreational activities. At the top of the list was cycling.

I am a proponent of maximising visibility and where possible, minimizing traffic exposure.

The current shortage of bike lanes and paths is another deterrent to cycling to work.

Do you know what they are doing about bicycle access out your way?

Hi, Paddy, one would have to wonder why why you've need 5 in two years? I've heard that there are issues with batteries not lasting. What's been your experience?

In the end, the battery is the life line. I have two and on long trips I carry the second in my saddlebag. They are expensive but it give me peace of mind.

The other issue is the throttle. What's you thoughts on that? personally I feel the throttle is essential , along with the Pedelec, or automatic kick in system. Your opinion? Mike
