Most of the channels are not in Aveiro's city centre, but there are many and pretty wide ones. If you look at a map of Portugal, you'll find channels running from Ovar almost all the way down to Mira! That's over 40 km! Aveiro itself used to have more channels and they used to go even further into the land, as the streets in Eixo and even as far as Águeda used to be channels. They're just not visible anymore, as the channels were drained! ;)

Aveiro is on the only natural geographical Delta in Europe. Claiming it has only 3 channels is wrong, actually there's thousands of channels covering nearly a 30Km wide area.
