Kentucky is one of only two state's that doesn't automatically restore former felon's right to vote, even though some former felons have served in office! The current system allows certain individuals the power to restore or deny a person's right to vote, and to my knowledge, also requires a written request, which might cause issues for those with limited literary ability, and few helpful connections. The system appears to be failing. These are people who can serve in the armed forces and die for the country, but who are not allowed to contribute through voting. Kentuckians for the Commonwealth are working with other organizations and people to help non-violent former felons to regain these rights automatically, after they've served their time. Statistics have shown that such felons recidivism (re-commiting a crime) rates are lower. One woman shares her thoughts on this matter at a rally in Frankfort, Kentucky.
