Actually, you'll find more control in the roll when you perform it if you just lower your elbow to meet the light toss of the ball. It seemed to me that you were relying solely on the toss, and thats why you fouled it up a few times there.
So, light toss from cradle towards the outside elbow stall point while lowering the receiving elbow to initiate the roll.
