GM Hikaru Nakamura Wins in Round 7

After drawing in Round 6, Nakamura knew he had to win in Round 7 and he came through big time. In this interview he stated he got the drop on his opponent and knew the game was his to win and he did so in style! When Akobian V. took back with his Knight instead of his Queen 14....Nxc5) Nakamura relaxed and was able to carry out his plan. He attacked black's King with his Rooks Pawn and other material and forced a win on the Queens side. Nakamura showed no fear when he was faced with his King being attack.....he king was exposed but there was not mate and all he had to do was just keep attacking the king with his pawns and even had a mate on the board with a pawn and his Queen! This variation is shown at the 2:57 time in the video.




He plays Michael Brooks in Round 8 and I predict he will win that game even though Brooks won his game today against the phenom Ray Robson. Robson appeared to have the advantage in his game with brooks today, yet he ended up losing! A tough lost no doubt as this hurts his chances of obtaining the Grand Master Title, not to mention his chances of winning the tournament. Perhaps the pressure is too much for the talented chess player who is only 14 years old.
Nakamura is in a strong position to win the Championship in Saint Louis and has almost gone as far as saying he will be the 2009 champ!
