The People's Liberation Army (中国人民解放军 or 中國人民解放軍) of China is the world's largest and deadliest military force. It has over 2,250,000 personnel, ranked first in the world. There are 5 service branches; the People's Liberation Army Ground Force (PLAGF), the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLA-N), the People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF), Second Artillery Corps (SAC), and the People's Armed Police (PAP). The Ground Force has over 1.6 million troops. The PLA Navy has over 250,000 plus an addition 147,000 troops. The PLA Air Force is the largest Asian Air Force in the world. It is composed of over 250,000 men and over 2,300 combat aircraft. The Second Artillery Corps is the strategic missile forces of China. It controls nuclear and conventional missiles. China has some 400 to over 8,000 nuclear weapons. It has over 90,000-120,000 people. The People's Armed Police keeps law.

The PLA (once called the Red Army) has fought in many battles, including the Chinese Civil War (which the PLA won), the Second Sino-Japanese War (which the PLA also won), the Korean War (which they won most battles), the 1st Indochina War (which the PLA and Vietnam won), the Vietnam War (which the PLA and Vietnam also won), the Sino-Indian War (which the PLA won), the Sino-Soviet Conflict (which both sides won), and the Sino-Vietnamese War (which the PLA once again won).

The PLA is controlled by the Communist Party of China, and the commander-in-chief of the PLA is Chinese President Hu Jintao.

My grandfather was in the People's Liberation Army. He fought in the Sino-Indian War, which the PLA won. He said that the Indians were SO scared they surrendered at just the sound of Chinese machine-gun fire. He later joined the People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF).

So, if you are thinking of an invasion into China, THINK AGAIN!

They did invade China. Sino-Indian War in 1962. Look at any history book, English, Hindi, Chinese it doesn't matter they all clearly states that Nehru suprised attacked the Chinese who were already low on resources from fighting in Korea and Vietnam. But even though the Chinese were ill prepared they had conbat experience and a superior commander. The Indian quickly withdrew and this event was never talked about again.

He wanted a war to make himself popular because of domestic problems. The PLA units were veterans of the Tibet Invasion and subsequent fighting Tibetan guerillas. Zhang Guo Hua had led these men for many years and knew the battlefield well. The Chinese were aware that fighting was inevitable and stock piled weapons, ammo and other supplies close to their outposts

@maseradio Actually the Chinese were well prepared. And there was no surprise attack from the INdians. There was a gradual escalation of fighting on their mutual borders and provocations by Indians moving their outposts to surround the Chinese units facing them. The Chinese launched a series of attacks that pushed the Indians back to the original stated border between the two countries.
