While studying abroad at Waseda University in Tokyo, Japan for a year in between my junior and senior year at Sac State University I continued my MMA training with AACC; still presently in contact with my teammates and mentors who helped me. So, anyway, even though I had been fighting professionally in Mexico and the US, according to the at that time, superior national MMA circuit in Japan, none of my fights were recognized as being professional and I was required to begin as an amateur, where I had to pay in order to get to compete. And the competition was a higher caliber than most of my pro fights in North America, as you can see here, where I am not even able to finish my opponent. However, with these amateur rules, no head strikes were allowed on the ground, a definite tactic I would otherwise exploit.

  • What was you day like, between studying at the university and training at AACC. I'm assuming you did your training at the gym in Oomori?

  • Studying at Waseda was excellent and pretty easy so I could really focus on my training. I mainly did my training at Oomori as was the event I showed. There was other places that we would train including the Gold's Gym in Harajuku and some other multipurpose gym facilities. It's easy to travel place to place with the train system, but what really worked out nice was being walking/bike distance from Oomori from where I lived.

  • good fight. Im going to be studying abroad in Tokyo in a year. How was the experience at aacc as a whole?

  • Excellent. They are even better now. I am still in contact with Abe Hiroyuki, who started AACC and trains and fights. I just went to his seminar in SF for the Grand Opening of Darren Uyenoyama's gym FTCC. They always are growing with the sport and learning more as they teach what they know. • You have fought everywhere, really, Chris, wow!

  • Megumi Fujii is a sick ass fighter!

  • Thanks bro

This amateur fighter in Japan was tougher than a lot of pros here in 2005.

We weren't allowed to hit in the face either.
