  • Thanks for posting this. I remember the "Big Bands from the Dorchester" series, enjoying watching it with my dad and in particular this one with the master drummer Buddy Rich. I didn't think there were such things as VCRs back then, how did you record it? I wonder if the programmes are available somehow. Why don't the beeb and others share their treasury of great music?

  • I recorded this on reels to reels (audio)

did'nt have vcr then.Got a copy from my drum teacher many yrs.ago.I'm pretty sure the beeb have most of these recordings archived. But to get them to re-air them is something else, however we live in hope.i also hev the Kenton one & the Herman one & the basie one (on tape)

  • wow! You have that in color!I have it in B&W.

Love Buddys Donny Osmond pin !

  • Yea,it was transmitted in color as were all the series.(i have kenton,Herman)don't have basie.Buddy loved to slag off the Osmonds.

I have just finished adding new audio track over video to Time Check, will upload soon.Cheers ludwig222

  • Yeah, Buddy said the Osmonds had no talent, when in fact, most of them are multi-instrumentalists; and pretty darn good at that. They just didn't play jazz. Unfortunately, this seems to be malady with a lot of jazz purists who take a high-minded attitude with other musicians of genres such as pop, rock, hip-hop, rap, etc. Especially since these other genre's are so much more popular and make millions (billions?) more than all the jazz musicians in the World.

  • pat, space man, fat man, fatter man and HIM

  • @FatNacker it put out some years ago here in the states

  • @luisamarte2000 because money after all means EVERYTHING! don't argue I know I'm right

  • That's called selling-out and part masses-R-asses marketing ! I don't think many people will be listening to Kiss in 40 years! Matter-of-fact I guaratnee it!

  • mikebuddy1!... This is GREAT in color. I have a couple copies of this in B&W, one of them is MINT in audio and video. Anyway, Bob Crea's solo on this just KILLS... ( tenor sax ) ... THAT is how you blow over blues changes!, and Buddy just lays in the shuffle feel without effort. I caught BR three times in 1973 and have to say that YES!, this was a KILLER band. Agreed by the way, his crash cymbal stands were NEVER higher than they are here, plus a lot more "angle" on his rack tom too!
