Within a few months of getting a laptop, many people experience strange things happening along with an increased temperature of their computer. Usually this is due to a cooling system that has lost its efficiency due to dust. In this video, I crack open a Toshiba Satellite notebook to show exactly how bad it can get and why your laptop may die sooner than you expect! Learn more at http://www.paywhatucan.com

  • Well, if all it's doing is shutting down, chances are it's not necessarily damaged. It's shutting down to prevent damage. Cleaning up the dust and the cooling assembly should solve the shutting down problem and you'll probably be back up - good as new.

  • @tigrafwedw: The best thing you can do to put it off is to keep it elevated and try to avoid working on it in bed with it sitting on your pillow. Obviously, it takes longer to build up if you work in a more dust-free environment.

@Skynetduo: Ya - those things have a lot of screws. I remember the firs time I took a notebook apart about 8 years ago or so. Think I ended up with about 6 left over screws. None the less, the thing still worked. Made it easier to take apart the next time! ;-)

  • Sorry about the camera work. I will do better next time. Perhaps a tripod?

I hope the video was useful to you and that your boyfriend got it back up and running!

  • Good Job Marc! Very informative. You just need a steadier camera operator! :-D

  • @Soul2SoulTreasures Thanks! Yes, well, maybe I should have someone else besides the narrator do the camera work. LOL

Just hope people learn something. Can save them a buck or two.
