Up first it's a review of Justice League of America #21. Alex draws attention to the special "Sightings" branding that this DC title got, and what it means. Next the guys it's Scalped #17. All the guys love this title, and Alex likens it to "The Sopranos" on a Native American reservation. Then it's a review of the return of Ed Brubaker and Greg Rucka to Marvel's Daredevil. Everybody feels like the return of Greg Rucka in particlar has made the title even better.

During then Speed Round the guys check out Dresden Files #2, The Perhapanauts #2, Bomb Queen: The Divine Comedy #1, Burn #1, and X-Men Divided We Stand #2. Finishing up it's another great edition of Viewer Mailbag, the portion of The Stack where Alex, Justin, and Pete answer your questions. Today the guys talk about art in comics being compared to more traditional forms of art.
Be sure to catch The Stack three times a week and send your questions and comments to tips@pulpsecret.com!

  • Art TOTALLY matters in the comics media. Good art isn't necessarily poses or crosshatching. Good art tells a story through mood, pace, and character identification. If all this fits even close to the writer's vision, then I would say the art was a success. Then you can consider a particular artists' style ("Style" meaning "flaws"). Comparing traditional art forms to comic art is almost pointless because for the past 100 or so years comics IS a traditional art form. Its all over pop culture. :)

  • holy shit...there was an edit cut in there...wtf...NO EDITS!!! lol

  • ed benez.

that's the only reason i'm still picking up JLA.

  • Pete, Justin and Alex will never let you get a word in. Beat them with axe handles until they submit.

As for art. Good art is good, bad art is bad. Is it high art on the level of the greats like da Vinci? Hell no! But done well and it's no less enjoyable and that's what matters most.

  • the art in x-force is amazing

  • Nice one.

  • Art isnt that important unless it really sucks and it bothers me to the point I have to drop the title.
