I think the whole thing in part is an amalgamation of a brave new world a couple of 1920/30's world fair films and Socialist "Nazi" Germany and Communist Russia, including the advertisement's and unhealthy amount of humans in one place of industrialized America circa birth of a nation or the 1900's.

Logan's run and time machine as well as some really rare 70's movies all dealt with the ghost town of the future and the military-industrial mall of the future.
