中日版《牡丹亭》彩排 Rehearsal of Peony Pavilion "Botantei"

This is the formal rehearsal of "Peony Pavilion" by Bando Tamasaburo and Suzhou Kunqu Company on Jan 19, 2008. It concludes a 10-day intensive rehearsal.
Worldwide premiere will be in Kyoto's Minami-za on March 6, 2008.

去年，日本著名歌舞伎大師坂東玉三郎曾來到蘇州，和蘇州昆劇院約定，雙方將合作表演昆曲《牡丹亭》。今天下午，中日版《牡丹亭》正式進行了彩排。

　　這就是坂東玉三郎扮演的杜麗娘，在《牡丹亭—離魂》片段裡，無論是他的扮相、唱腔，還是舉手投足，你都很難想象，他其實是一個日本人，而且從來到蘇州和中國演員合練，到今­天只有短短10天時間。

　　在許多人看來，被譽為"日本梅蘭芳"的坂東玉三郎絕對是個表演天才，不過連一般中國人都很難把握的昆曲唱詞，他又是怎樣應對的呢？

　　3月1號，整個劇組將前往日本做公演前的最后准備，3月6號起，由中日雙方藝術家共同出演的《牡丹亭》和《楊貴妃》將在日本連演20場。

　　下午，市委常委、宣傳部長徐國強觀看了彩排演出，彩排前，徐國強還會見了日本駐滬總領事隈丸優次。徐國強希望，中日兩國進一步加強文化等領域的交流，並預祝中日合作版《牡­丹亭》在日本演出圓滿成功。

I hope the performance itself will be recorded and available to the U.S. on DVD or something similer. I wish the world community would televise art like this over sports, then we could see more of it!

I agree. But I am not sure if it would happen due to potential copyright issues. I think part of the perf might be available as a TV documentary though.

yep, the original site even can't display the page properly... and some japanese newspaper said this play will perform in Beijing from May,5th to 16th at HuGuangHuiGuan. Don't know if it's true, because no chinese newspaper talks about the details of this performance so far~~

right, the Beijing performance is from May 5-16 in Hu Guang Hui Guan. I quoted some Chinese newspapers in my blog at botanteiDOTblogspotDOTcom/2008­/01/press-release-in-tokyo-172­008DOThtml The date/venue was also shown in a poster behind Tamasaburo during the press event.
