The Filipino Question: Are Filipinos Asian or Pacific Islander?

C'mon people! is this really an issue!?? If you go to the Philippines, a lot of Filipinos here don't even know what a Pacific Islander is, let alone be one! those who claim otherwise are those hodgepodge FilAms who knows nothing about their motherland.

If Filipinos are pacific islanders then the combined population of 9 South East Asian Nations would be zero. They would all have died laughing when Philippines became a founding member of ASEAN. Remember "Pacific Islander" refers to the Polynesians, Micronesians and Melanisians. Filipinos who claim to be Pacific Islander suffer from confusion, a lack of identity and are ashamed of the economic situation of PI. Remember we are South East Asians.

People in the Philippines consists of mixed races, it is amazing and have so many talents and skills that is global competitive. so we better be classified as GLOBAL :) ! if neither Pacific Islanders and Asian wants to accept us.. its their lost. lets just move on with our lives and continue to prove them all that we can compete with them all.

why do most filipina girls (Pinays) sound alike when talking _ listen carefully, all have a whiney voice..  But to asnswer the question.. both are correct! the philippines is in Asia but the Pacific side and it is an Island, therefore, Pacific islander would be a more accurate way to identify, most ppl confuse being Asian as to being oriental, where there is a big difference. Orientals manily compose of Koreans, Chinese, Japanese etc. (yellow skin) ppl.As to the Pacific islander has Malay

@Teine2656 You're father is right. I am native Marianas Islander (Guam, Saipan, etc.) And although there is a significant Filipino population on the islands, to us native islanders Filipinos are Asians. Marianas Islanders (Chamorros) can relate somewhat well with Filipinos because of common Spanish & American colonial heritage. But the fundamentals of their way of thinking is very different from Pacific Islanders and is more characteristic of Asian. Filipinos ARE Asian. Nothing wrong with that.

Asians, like Japanese, Koreans, Vietnamese, Chinese, Thai, etc.. accept Filipinos as fellow ASIANS. But the REAL Pacific Islanders from Hawaii, Samoa, Guam, Fiji, Micronesia, etc. do not accept Filipinos as such. Why is that?  Perhaps because Filipinos are ASIANs and have a different way of thinking and being and are different from the REAL Pacific Islanders.

We Filipinos are asians.. it's just that we've been invaded by countries like Spain and US for quite a long time. That's why our ancestor's cultural heritage got effed up big time!! Remember.. WE ARE ASIANS!!!
