I don't get it. First you affirmed my position by saying intelligent people can be religious, then followed up by saying intelligence and atheism correlate. Religion could be accessible and not stymie human development. It could be perfectly harmless and even beneficial if people followed it because of its moral focus and sense of community. But, to say it should be regarded as witchcraft is just idiotic. Nothing's wrong with religion itself, just the people who manipulate it.

@funkyfranx Well spoken, kind Sir or gentle Madam, well spoken indeed. It is absolutely beyond me how otherwise rational and thoughtful adults can puff out their chest and proclaim that they are devout Christians, fully expecting you to pay them loads of respect due to their capability to disregard reality and to be astonishingly infantile... We, as the human species, need to grow the fuck up. Once and for all.

If there were no religion, the world would be a better place. True fact, there's no denying this. I really don't understand how we can have all the complex technology we have in this day and age, yet we still have to explain why religion is complete bullshit. Boggles my mind.

@sami2503 I'm glad they called her out on how predictable her 'jokes' are. Now if only they'd stop putting her on all together...

@sciences8 Plenty of intelligent people can have stupid beliefs. Only the most delusional theist would deny the obvious correlation between intelligence and atheism. In fact, maybe once society stops treating religion as an "alternative view", and more as the bizarre fetish it is, like witchcraft, we can move on.

You're acting as if believing in a religion denies you of intelligence. That's rather ignorant. I know plenty of religious people who are certainly more intelligent than the average atheistic Briton. One of my professors was very religious but a mathematics genius. He worked for NASA for several years and still contracts for them. I'm irreligious myself, but to assume stupidity follows religion is far more irrational than religion itself.

@sciences8 The issue isn't insanity or ignorance, it's religion. FAR more Americans as a percentage of population are religious than Britons.

@CorvusBelli01 He said it WASN'T a minor cult, indicating that it was either a major cult or a full-fledged religious sect. He doesn't refer to it as a cult.

@baxterimt Good. Help people, it's a good thing to do whether you're religious or not. The fact that I and many others think the entire God theory is silly shouldn't mean they're allowed to judge all religious people because a few do stupid things. :)
However, religion, nationalism and imperialism are perhaps the three things wich has fucked the world up most of all, and religion is responsible for lots of terrible things.

The start of this shows just how cliche' Jo Brand has become..
God, I can't wait until the Christians are Raptured! The world will be so much better with them gone.

@theabigailjean
Stephen Fry refers to it as a cult at 1:01.
