  • PEAK XV DOWN PARKA FOR 2011:

I just bought the First Ascent Peak XV Down Parka, which is the same as the Peak XV Jacket, but three inches longer and therefore warmer! I find it to be the WARMEST Down Parka I have tested as a Down Industry Professional! WARNING: It is meant only for EXTREMELY COLD DAYS!! In New York it will be great, but too warm for 30 degree days. Buy it for Emergency Cold Days only!

  • Just moved to Fairbanks!

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I just moved to Fairbanks, AK and have been searching for a parka that is affordable and functional.

  • For the record, the newer version of this jacket (out for over a year) has glove/water bottle pockets on both sides on the insides and even tougher, reinforced areas on the forearms and shoulders.

  • Eddie Bauer FTW!

  • The lining in this jacket is the softest, silkiest, most luxurious feeling lining ever. I wish this lining was in the Eddie Bauer Igniter jacket!

If you like soft, silky shells on your down jacket, this isn't it. I wish this jacket had a super silky shell on it as well.

My ideal jacket is a soft primaloft or medium fill down jacket, with a silky 15d shell and this lining fabric. And I would want hand pockets lined with this same fabric on both sides too.

  • Nice parka. Looks warm. I like that you pointed out the weight - fill-power alone doesn't indicate the warmth of the garment. Loft is more important, in fact. Most puffy 650-fill jackets will be significantly warmer than the $200 Patagonia down sweater (800 or 850-fill) which is very thin.

At that weight, this looks to be an extremely warm parka.
