when i saw this in rochester last week it took everything in me to not burst out crying (i can be a loud cryer) and especially since i saw it on the fifth anniversary of my own abuela's passing just made it hit deeper

Lin was greatly inspired by RENT and Jonathan Larson's work, so that's probably a main factor in the similarity. It does sound a lot alike, but they each have their own unique beauty.
