Lyrics :
PROLOGUE
Don't tell me you don't know what love is
When you're old enough to know better
When you find strange hands in your sweater
When your dreamboat turns out to be a footnote
I'm a man with a mission in two or three editions

CHORUS
And I'm giving you a longing look
Everyday, everyday, everyday I write the book

VERSE 1
Chapter One we didn't really get along
Chapter Two I think I fell in love with you
You said you'd stand by me in the middle of Chapter Three
But you were up to your old tricks in Chapters Four, Five and Six

CHORUS

VERSE 2
The way you walk. The way you talk, and try to kiss me, and laugh
In four or five paragraphs
All your compliments and your cutting remarks
Are captured here in my quotation marks

CHORUS (NB ONLY 4 BARS!!!!!)

CODA

PROLOGUE 2
Don't tell me you don't know the difference. Between a lover and a fighter
With my pen and my electric typewriter
Even in a perfect world where everyone was equal
I'd still own the film rights and be working on the sequel

CHORUS X2

Everyday I write the book Elvis Costello

  • Usually, I can take or leave covers, but you guys did a great job. All five of you, really. Everybody did their part to play a cover that's as memorable as the original version. Dare I say, even better, in that coffee shop, acoustic kinda way. :)

  • enjoyy..

  • how could i actually prefer this to Costello's version?! blasphemy, but I confess...

  • Guys, I must REALLY congratulate you. You managed to move me with this cover, a lot more in fact than Ron Sexsmtih did even though I'd found his version pretty good. The simplicity of the orchestration - which still is original, with the beatboxing - as well as the beauty of the voices renewed my interest in this song, which I loved but I assumed could no longer touch me.

  • Never really understood most of the lyrics until I watched your video.......you kids have fine taste in music......well done!

  • nice. I love it

  • good work guys. like the beatbox

  • fantastic take on this song.

  • one of my all time fav songs, you guys did GREAT!!

  • love it (:
