Solana to meet Georgian officials

EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy Javier Solana will arrive in Georgia with a two-day official visit to hold negotiations with the Georgian officials, including Georgia's President Mikheil Saakashvili and the Prime Minister Lado Gurgenidze.
As reported, Solana will trip to Georgia's breakaway region of Abkhazia to hold consultations with separatist officials; he is going to meet the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for Georgia, Mr. Jean Arnault.
As commented news agencies on 4 June Solana told the European Parliament that he hopes the EU can make a "constructive contribution'' toward brokering face-to-face talks between Georgian and Abkhaz officials.
"There is growing concern about the tense situation there and the increased military activity in and around the region,'' Solana's spokeswoman Cristina Gallach said.
