The Kill {Rebirth} :: Tod & Copper

Entered in dogsrock2010's contest, WMM category.

At first I intended this AMV to be a huge crazy effect explosion, but it ended up taking a mellower, more emotional turn. I played around with colors a bit and used a lot of lipsyncing. I used a different version of the song, too, to try and avoid copyright problems... which seems to be working so far.
Oh yeah, I also included a watermark in place of my intro/outro. :D

My storyline was intended to include a (one-sided) romance between Tod and Copper, but if that sort of thing bothers you, their relationship can be viewed as just friendship.

[PLOT]

Tod and Copper are childhood best friends, and they spend their days playing together and generally being adorable. During this time, Tod develops feelings for Copper. One day, their happiness is shattered when Tod runs outside to see Copper being taken away by the hunter. Tod becomes depressed and is convinced he will never see Copper again.

Years later, Copper returns from the hunting trip fully grown. Tod confronts Copper that night and tells him how he feels. Copper rejects Tod, saying that they can't work out. He tells Tod that their childhood friendship was just a lie, and that while he was away, he found out who he really is-- a vicious killer.

Hurt and rejected, Tod turns on Copper. The two fight each other, and Copper chases Tod through the forest. Suddenly, a bear appears and begins to attack Copper. Tod sees Copper being attacked and hesitates for a moment, but he decides not to help Copper and flees for his life instead. At the top of the mountain, Tod attempts to cross the river by jumping onto a log, but he loses his footing and slips. The log breaks and Tod tumbles down the waterfall.

[spoilers ahead, lol]

Copper finds Tod lying helpless in the water. (He got away from the bear somehow... just go with it :P) At that moment, the hunter comes out of nowhere and aims his gun at Tod, who looks to Copper for help. Copper remembers Tod's refusal to save him from the bear. He turns his back on his former friend and walks away, leaving him to the mercy of the hunter.

As usual, everything was done with WMM.

But my FAVORITE part was starting from copper's POV: 'I tried to be someone else...'

that part onwards was absolutely awesome. 2:28 was the BEST editing I've seen in a long while. And then from then out, the second half was the best, to me...Todd's reluctance to save Copper's life was all done SO perfectly. And then end was so sad even though I saw it coming D: damn you for making Todd die!! ahhhh )': But the blood in the water was stunning, literally; sent chills down my spine.

I really like Tod (really I do!), but he just had to die for the story to work. I had a different ending planned where there was no hunter and Copper just left Tod lying in the water, but I felt it was... emotionally unsatisfying. Not that killing Tod outright is any better. xD

Yay, you got the part about the blood in the water! I wondered how well that would translate into the final product (especially since it turned out pink, stupid WMM). But yeah, that was one of my favorite parts to do.

I would've used more action scenes than talking ones, because I would never make this a lipsync video but YOU pulled it off WONDERFULLY. 'You said you wanted more' Oh my god I LOVE IT. And the part where Todd gets rejected: aww so sad ): He's all, "but I LOVE you! D: "

I didn't really intend for this to be a lipsync video, but once I started editing, it just took its own direction, and I was like "Oh yeah, this could work."

In the black-and-white part (1:44-1:50) with the mini-flashback, I wanted to show that when Copper rejected Tod, it was like he was losing him all over again. :( Such a heartbreaker, that Copper. :P

This is so amazing. This is my favorite movie ever. I have loved it since it first came out when I was little. The movie makes me cry every time and this made me cry too. Absolutely amazing.
