  • That fan is missing it's centrifugal switch. Many brand of fans from the 1900s/1910s, such as Westinghouse, have what is called a centrifugal switch. It consists (on Westinghouse fans) of 2 copper hemispheres attached to the housing, which form a sort of divided "ring collar" type of structure, and then 3 spring-held movable armatures attached to the rotor.
