After nearly seven years of battle, we win.

My petition for adoption has been granted.

I became a father on May 31, 2011, but I've raised Lizzy and been her dad since October of 2004 when she was just 2.

Back then, I was just the only one of her Mom's coworkers who had an extra room they could stay in.

Lizzy and her Mom came to live with me after suffering horrendous domestic abuse and violence at the hands of the pathetic creature we have been battling.

In the years since then, Lizzy's Mon divorced the DVperp, and then successfully gained 100% custody - which all the legal experts (including GAL Joanne Primavera, and even Lisa's own attorney) told her she would never accomplish.... They don't know Lisa, and they greatly underestimated her determination and "Mama-Tiger" protectiveness, where Lizzy's safety is concerned...

I married Lisa in 2007, and in June of 2010 I filed my petition to adopt Lizzy. A mere 12 months (and a couple years worth of college tuition) later... my petition is finally granted - we are officially the Kuhns family!

Happy endings actually do get to happen sometimes - I'm really grateful to everyone who provided the support which allowed us to achieve this particularly happy ending.

Much love to you all,
Gordon Kuhns - a2zdiy

  • Wonderful news, congratulations to all of you!

  • @1Weemaryanne Thank you so much!

  • Now I know why it took seven years — look how many words they take to say 'She's your daughter now'. ;8) It must put a smile on judges' faces when they get to give such good news to such good people. ;8)

  • @TheraminTrees "It must put a smile on judges' faces...to give such good news to such good people. ;8)"

Many thanks link... and no kidding - Judge Downing clearly made no effort to conceal his glee... He's a former prosecutor, so I'm sure he's seen cases where the bad guy gets to make a deal and avoid facing real consequences for their crimes - in order to spare the state the expense of a proper trial and conviction...

Judge Downing read our entire case to prepare for trial - he was ready...

  • @TheraminTrees (cont) Judge Downing... he was ready...

I'm betting it gave him great personal satisfaction to send Mr. crack-smack-head on down the road, and out of our lives.

We did not attend the termination proceedings, but I'm guessing the Judge kept his smiles for our part of the process - and he certainly did smile a lot - from start to finish, he never stopped smiling - as big and happy a smile as it looked like his face could fit!

Once it was official, even I could finally smile... !

  • Fantastic!

Congratulations to you and the whole family!
