Joseph Smith first president, prophet, and founder of the Mormon Church:

Are the Mormons abolitionists? No, unless delivering the people from priestcraft, and the priests from the power of Satan, should be considered abolition. But we do not believe in setting the negroes free.Prophet Joseph Smith, Jr., History of the Church, v.3, p. 29

Had I anything to do with the negro, I would confine them by strict law to their own species, and put them on a national equalization" (Joseph Fielding Smith, Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, 270; History of the Church, 5: 218; emphasis added). "Thursday, 8--Held Mayor's court and tried two negroes for attempting to marry two white women: fined one $25, and the other $5" (ibid., 6: 210). and the rebellious niggers in the slave states. . . " (Millennial Star, 22:602; emphasis added).

When Mormon Historians reprinted this in the History of the Church, they change it to read: "and the rebellious negroes in the slave states. . . " (History of the Church, 6:158; emphasis added).

There is a reason why one man is born black and with other disadvantages, while another is born white with great advantages. The reason is that we once had an estate before we came here, and were obedient; more or less, to the laws that were given us there. Those who were faithful in all things there [pre-existence] received greater blessings here, and those who were not faithful received less. . . . There were no neutrals in the war in Heaven. All took sides either with Christ or with Satan. Every man had his agency there, and men receive rewards here based upon their actions there, just as they will receive rewards hereafter for deeds done in the body. The Negro, evidently, is receiving the reward he merits (Joseph Fielding Smith, Doctrines of Salvation, 1:61, 65-66; emphasis added).

LDS Apostle Bruce R. McConkie furthers this teaching:

Those who were less valiant in pre-existence and who thereby had certain spiritual restrictions impose on them during mortality are known to us as the negroes. Such spirits are sent to earth through the lineage of Cain, the mark put upon him for his rebellion against God, and his murder of Able being a black skin. . . . Noah's son married Egyptus, a descendant of Cain, thus preserving the negro lineage through the flood. . . . the negro are not equal with other races where the receipt of certain spiritual blessings are concern. . . . " (Mormon Doctrine, 527-28; 1966 orig. ed., changed in the current ed.; emphasis added).

LDS Prophet Brigham Young "You see some classes of the human family that are black, uncouth, uncomely, disagreeable, sad, low in their habits, wild, ad seemingly without the blessings of the intelligence that is generally bestowed upon mankind. The first man that committed the odious crime of killing one of his brethren will be cursed the longest of any one of the children of Adam. Cain slew his brother. Cain might have been killed, and that would have put termination to that line of human beings. This was not to be and the Lord put a mark on him, which is the flat nose and black skin. Trace mankind down to after the flood, and then other curse is pronounced upon the same race - that they would be the "servant of servants;" and they will be, until that curse is removed; and the Abolitionists cannot help it, nor in the least alter that decree." Journal of Discourses, Volume 7, pages 290 291

LDS Prophet Brigham Young
"Shall I tell you the law of God in regard to the African race? If the white man who belongs to the chosen seed mixes his blood with the seed of Cain, the penalty, under the law of God, is death on the spot. This will always be so." Journal of Discourses, Volume 10, page 110.

  • First of all, the curse being spoken of in the Book of Mormon is the curse that the Native Americans got, not the blacks. The curse the Mormon church teaches concerning the Blacks is from the Bible, the interpretation of the Curse of Cain.

  • @theYguy300 Actually the CURSE of CAIN DOCTRINE is in LDS MORmON Scripture called The Pearl of Great Price read and Learn.

"..there was a blackness came upon all the children of Canaan, that they were despised among all people..(Moses 7:8).""And..they were a mixture of all the seed of Adam save it was the seed of Cain, for the seed of Cain were BLACK, and had not place among them (Moses 7:22)."being of the lineage by which he could not have the right of PRIESTHOOD(Abraham 1:26-27)."

  • @llegalPlayer

Bud, I already know this.. But the curse of Cain was mentioned in the Old Testament. Their interpretations spawned these standard works. Hope you learned a thing or two.

  • @theYguy300 my point is the curse of Cain in the holy bible does not say God cursed Cain with Black Skin or from the Priesthood. The MORmON Scriptures do teach this RACIST TRASH,I hope you learned a thing or two.

... At least in the cases of the LAMANITES and the NEGROES we have the definite word of the Lord Himself that He placed a dark skin upon them as a CURSE ... (Race Problems--As They Affect the Church, August 27, 1954, address at CES convention at Brigham Young University)

  • dang i didnt realize this stufff about the mormons. everyone from the mideast areas are dark skinned because of the harsh sunlight of that environment.the people from Djibouti are the darkest ive ever seen but they have structural features that resemble peeps from India.Eskimoes are dark because of the bright blinding snow.skin color is a reflection of the environment in which they come from.its not a curse.peace.

  • @eperfection1 That's not exactly true. LAMENTATION 4:8 THEIR VISAGE IS BLACKER THAN A COAL. Blacks are the first humans waaaaaay before white people even existed , which mens that Adam & Eve were black, or , that's if you don't believe in the Bible, God's first chosen were black. It can not be denied.

  • YES.... Niggers are cursed!!!!!

  • @courtman06 Why focus on it? Good question, why? why did Joseph,Brigham and other LDS leaders do that? That question should be on them. How two faced and wicked to turn this around on black people by shifting the blame. The BOM has those racist verses and your leaders continued with it especialy Brigham who was a virulent racist. You prophets and leaders called black people "niggers, low in their habits, ucnouth, cursed" and you have the nerve to ask? Compare with Gal 3:28,Acts 10:34.

  • hey courtman06. here is a questions. those in the book of mormon who had the dark skin. when they repent did they turn white again? what is going on here? people change color evey other day. what a joke and has nothing to do with the Gosples. pluse Jesus was dark skinned. He looked just like everyone in those days. His parents lost Him at the temple and they could not find Him cuz He did not stand out. you know blonde kid with blue eyes and white skin. not so, he had dark hair and dark eyes.

  • lol, i thought the title had LSD instead of LDS
