Fred Rogers Center Highlights

Fred Rogers was an exceptional man with an exceptional television program Mister Rogers' Neighborhood.  And he believed that, when used appropriately, media can be a powerful tool for learning and development.  These beliefs were the foundation for the Fred Rogers Center for Early Learning and Children's Media at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, PA.

Using the power of today's digital technology and Web-based networking, the Fred Rogers Center is developing an online community (www.fredrogerscenter.org) and innovative programs in much the same way Fred himself used Mister Rogers' Neighborhood and the cutting-edge technology of his day - television - to build relationships with children and families.

These creative programs include the Early Career Fred Rogers Fellows program to develop new generations of children's media producers; the Early Learning Network of technology-based and media-supported resources for teachers, home-based caregivers, and families; the Fred Forward Conference Series for field bridging and field building in early learning and children's media; the Learning Lives documentary project tracing factors that affect learning from birth through high school and beyond; and a media literacy initiative involving child-created video projects.  In addition, the Center houses the official archive of materials representing the body of Fred Rogers work.
