Touch screen phones are the latest must-have for today's technology lovers. But what if you could control your music player with your eyes or use your hand as a remote? Engineers in Japan are getting creative ideas to develop the must-have electronic gadgets of the future.

Young people in Japan are addicted to their mobile phones.

Texting, calling, playing music, taking photos and even playing games - all these are miniature communications and entertainment system in your pocket.

But despite the versatility of the mobile phone, technology fans are always demanding more.

Engineers at NTT DoCoMo, Japan's top mobile carrier, are experimenting with new ways to use mobile phones and other electronic devices.

A researcher wears a giant headset covered with wires to show how computer graphic lines in a monitor connected to the headset dart wildly whenever his eyes move.

He can control this digital music player by with eyes by looking in different directions.

An executive research engineer for the company says he is always thinking about wearable devices for the future that blend into everyday life.

Dr. Masaaki Fukumoto, Exec. Research Eng. NTT Docomo Frontier Tech Research Group, said, "We are researching what we should wear and where we should put the devices on when the mobile phones evolve in ten or twenty years' time."

A wearable mobile phone about the size of a ping pong ball has been developed.

Also a wristwatch that can detect the wearer's thumb and forefinger tapping together to work as a remote controller for a DVD player or TV.

But gadget lovers will have to be patient because it's not known when all these new technologies will hit the market.
