This was our Weekend Project. We started out with a simple "light the LED" circuit but Gunnar saw the SPEAKER on the kit and wanted to do something with it. So we made a simple oscillator that we controlled first with a potentiometer (knob) and then with the CdS (Cadmium Sulfide) light sensor.

As it says in the credits, the schematic is (c) Maxitronix. They make a great kit...we're barely scratching the surface here.

(Yes I know he got cut off at the end, he recorded over the last couple of seconds :( )

  • What is that Inductor/Transformer piece at the beginning(The schematic intro)? It looks to me like a transformer but I've never seen one like that... I am also making an oscillator however I am having some trouble identifying that piece.

  • @ImmortalAcorn The transformer at the top right just matches the circuit to the speaker impedance. Look at @1:59 , that's the same picture.

  • @ahp00k I've seen transformers with 4 leads, but that one apparently has 5. Does this transformer have a special name or something? I really need to read more into transformers. =/
