An Honest Search for the Truth - Part 1 Slavery

This video is the first of a series that will address inconsistencies & contradictions in the Bible that we studied and researched on our way out of organized religion. The videos will be derived from a document containing that body of research which was written to answer the many inquiries we knew we would have after our deconversion was made public. Being 3rd generation Christians, the flavor of which holds that the Bible is inerrant, divinely inspired, and literally interpreted, the extrication of ourselves from organized religion was not without exit wounds.

Our hope is that this video series will help those Christians who have questions or may be "riding the fence" to allow rational discourse with regard to their religious beliefs. And that possibly, they can remove the thought constraints installed by their respective religous beliefs.

So basically, we don't have a problem with acknowleging God's existence, it's just we think we are more righteous than Him...The bible doesn't contradict as you said, slavery was acceptable in OT

They are morally wrong according to who..us? Who are we compared to the creator of the universe? "Every way of a man is right in his OWN eyes, but the Lord ponders the heart.."prov3:5 Like she said, God was even ok with His own ppl being enslaved. "I will have compassion on who i will, and mercy upon whom I will." Actually, even if God killed us ALL right now, He would be a just God. But He doesn't bc He is also merciful. We are the ones that have sinned and NOBODY is righteous but Him.

So please tell me what do I need to understand in order to accept the killing of babies, the enslaving of generations, the stoning of a man because and ONLY because he gathered wood on a sabbath, or the idea that a woman raped must MARRY forever the man who raped her...or never shaving my beard, or never cutting my hair...

What do people need to know in order to understand this, because according to you, we don't understand the bible. In what context are any of these acts ok?

Can you prove your claim that there's an afterlife? No one has done it in thousands of years, I doubt you can... until then, I will enjoy my life as much as I can because it's the only life we know for sure we have, any other type of existence after death is just superstition made up by people with no evidence to support their claim whatsoever. You also fail to acknowledge the fact that the Bible is written by numerous authors who may have held differing views. Also, it is a compilation of books approved by many councils during the roman empire. Slavery during the Roman Empire made a large impact as many of the architectural wonders would not be possible without slaves, some from the conquered Israel.

The Bible should not be taken word for word and modern laws should not be applied to the mindsets of humans from an era when slavery was accepted.
