Spinal Muscular Atrophy with Respiratory Distress is a "Rare" terminal neurodegenerative disease that affects the motor neurons and causes progressive muscle wasting (deterioration of feet, legs, hands, arms and neck muscles). There are only about 60 to 70 kids in the world diagnosed with this disease. Most infants die in their sleep due to a paralyzed diaphragm. It happens to infants in the age range of 2 to 6 months. Most never see their 1st birthday.
