Classic Game Room HD reviews DOUBLE DRAGON for the Sega Master System from 1988. This Double Dragon review shows gameplay and footage from this game which is better known on the Nintendo Entertainment System. The NES version of Double Dragon, which will be reviewed in a different review from this reviewer, will show the differences between the Sega Double Dragon and the Nintendo Double Dragon. Doubel Dragon was released for the arcade in 1987 in Japan and is regarded as one of the first 2D side scrolling beat em up video games. The Sega version is a 2 player co-op game like Streets of Rage. Walk along and punch bad guys with that 1980s arcade style, use clubs, bats and whips to beat them into a bloody mess. Double Dragon represents that two dimensional violent street fighting kind of game that has vanished in recent years. Released by Technos for the Sega in 1988 this is one of the worst versions of Double Dragon out there and is probably not worth your money. There are better games on the Sega Master System like Shinobi, Space Harrier and Zillion. Double Dragon should be played on Xbox Live Arcade, the NES or on a stand up arcade machine.

  • Review fail...

  • versión sms mejor la nes

  • I love this reviewer, but he's simply wrong here. This version of Double Dragon on the SMS was not only extremely fun, but it was one of the best SMS games.

  • @cryptichearts It all comes down to opinion, he just didn't like the Sega Master System's version of Double Dragon. That's all.

  • @awesomereece123 I raged at him like that because I grew up with the SMS version. And, it was good! And here he is trashing it.

  • @cryptichearts He said he didn't like the Sega Master System version. Stop being mad over someone's opinion of a game and stop hating on a great entertainer who makes great reviews! I personally like Double Dragon, although I've not had the luck to play the original NES or Sega Master System version.

  • Lol You're a fuckin' dumb shit dude, InecomCompany, whoever you are. This is a classic!

  • The Genesis version isn't much better. The music is screechy at certain parts and the gameplay is pretty slow for that time. Hit detection can also leave you frustrated at how often you're getting hit AFTER you press the buttons and nothing happens. I also found it annoying that wherever you moved, the opponents moved WITH you as almost a mirror image.

  • I think this version is alot better then what the reviewer is giving it credit for. Had lots of fun with this game in the late 80's. I personally thought it was better then the NES version. Now the Atari 7800 is by far the worst version of Double Dragon and I like the 7800 but they butchered this game on that console.

  • The SMS versions of games more often tried to mimc the actual arcade gameplay, whereas Nintendo versions would abandon the arcade gameplay altogether and change the game into something that caters more to the system's capability and game length.

Given the systems' inferiority to the hardware of the arcade namesakes, more often than not the NES games ended up being better games on their own merit since the system could actually run them well. Sometimes the SMS pulled off a fun conversion though
