@TeamRocketRockin By the time the first episode aired, most of the other episodes were already released, and as such, Scooter was already introduced in the 6th episode. Although the continuity of the show isn't entirely accurate, CBS swerved away from this problem by airing episodes out-of-order. I know this doesn't explain Scooter's appearance in Episode 4, but again, released out of order. Space-time annihilation narrrowly avoided. THERE!

I think I can explain the whole Scooter-continuity thing for anyone who makes another comment about it.
The first two episodes were merely pilot episodes for the show. As the first season started airing, these two pilot episodes were heavily edited to match up with the final product of the show. Scooter wasn't actually IN the first episode, but rather, all his scenes were plastered in to replace some deleted material. (see reply)

The episodes were aired in a different order, than they were produced.
