In January 2008 I walked up Wudang Shan when the buses wouldn't risk the roads. I found this Wu Guan (martial temple) on the side of the mountain. It was pretty early in the morning, and brutally cold. The students were just outside practicing like they do every day. They live there year round and practice 10-12 hours a day 6 days a week.

  • Wow. lots of hours and days practice!!

We could all take a lesson from that alone. Nice clip. Was it hard to get to this place?

  • WudangShan is challanging to reach. It is 24 hours by train from Beijing or Hong Kong. I flew to Wuhan and took a 10 hour train. The mountain is easily accessable from the town however. This Guan is closer to the base of the mountain. There are 3 martial temples on the mountain that I know of, and a host of "holy" temples.

  • Plus the elevation would have an effect on the students as well. Less air up high.

  • jeez, someone has a high opinion of themselves. Its very un-martial-artist like to desctructively criticize videos on youtube of children learning martial arts. Besides if you've been practicing xing yi for a year (not very long as martial arts go) why do you feel you have authority on what is and is not good form. Maybe its a different style?

  • @Israeli88

Is true the Xing Yi in the clip is not great but you dont know how long these kids have been doing Xing Yi for. Alot of the hours spent training would be on basics. And wudang has a lot of different styles that they could be more proficient at.

  • Listen, I've been practicing Xing Yi for a year and been doing much better than these guys. I practice 4 times a week, 2 hours each session, 2 with my teacher and 2 alone. If I were training 12 hours a day six days a week, I could've been much much better. Something ain't right here.

  • thanks for posting this. amazing

  • I can see how cold it is in the clip. It's fascinating that they still train this way in some areas...

  • that's awesome, thanks
