Elizabeth Taylor - Hollywood - by Richard Bassett

HOLLYWOOD.....The magical land where anything and everything happens. I lived there for a dozen years (1979-1990) and anything and everything always seemed to be always happening to me. Well, that is another story altogether. Dame Elizabeth lived, primarily, in Los Angeles until she started to travel the globe with Richard Burton in 1962. And in 1982, she made Los Angeles here permanent home once more and has lived there ever since. To those who are not familiar with the land, it may seem commercial and a bit bizarre at first glance. I was living there in my 20's and had a wonderful time. Sometimes I daydream about living there again. What if?? Again, oh well. Elizabeth pulled the film industry together in the late 1980's when AIDS was literally ending the lives of so many industry employees'. The death of Rock Hudson showed Hollywood that the deadly disease could affect one of its own. Sadly, it didn't stop there. But Elizabeth relentlessly pulled them all together into forming one of the strongest bonds we have in this nation today. The love that pours out of Los Angeles isn't felt by everyone....but it is there just the same. They care. They cry. They mend lives. People helping people generously. Please donate if you can.

Oops. Last night, after turning off my pc & was dozing off to sleep, I suddenly realized the Cleopatra web site to which I referred was Trivette's Tribute to Taylor & not yours. Anyhoo, you & Trivette's cybernetic honors to E.R.T. are the best. Thank you both. I've have always favored the pics of E.T. in her kabuki outfit from Boom, the lavender-blue dress with the huge marquis cut diamond necklace &, of course, her Cleopatra's entrance into Rome "cloth of gold" dress. Toodles.

I miss your web site with the costumes & memorabilia on Cleopatra. You mentioned you were redoing your home & I suspected you would be recreating the part of the palace at Alexandria where the staircase leads to Cleopatra's quarters. Chuckle. I painted a T-shirt for Rosemond with her descending among the stars in her "Mirror Cracked" violets & Grecian tunic years ago & sent it to her Sherman Oaks address & got a Thank You letter back signed by (darn) Sharon Leigh. Toodles.
