The spot opens on a sandwich-eating elderly couple resting at a seat. Before they know it, their feet are lifted and a bar descends clamping them into the seat. They are whizzed around, sandwiches flying, until they pick-up G-force. It soon becomes apparent they mistook a rollercoaster cart for a restful seat. The retailers celebrated strapline, Should've Gone to Specsavers, explains the couples mistake.

Shot on location in Blackpool Pleasure Beach and styled as a modern version of Mike Leighs Vera Drake, Specsavers Creative enlisted help from Emmy-nominated comedy director, Mike Bigelow, to maximise the scripts humour by contrasting the couples domestic intimacy against the rollercoasters mayhem.

Specsavers Creative creative director, Graham Daldry, said: This is an ad that breaks new ground for the over 60s market. It certainly has a twist in it.

  • Specsavers.....shit quality frames, worse lenses. and cheap? well no wonder, costs em nothing to make,

    Never going there again...............

  • One time Carry On supporting actor Hugh Futcher. But for the life of me I can't place who the lady is. Even though her face is familiar... any takers?

  • WOOH! infusion at Blackpool pleasure beach

  • What sort of cheese was that?

  • They had doubles to go on the rollercoaster, the old couple just filmed the bit were the ride starts to take off and then they changed them. Really good fun, but my god never have i been so cold in all my life! at least i can say im one of the pink blurs in the background hahaha.

  • Whats even more amazing is that not only do they get their arms out of the harness, but the cheese sandwich dissapears!

  • omg - awsome advert

  • brilliant add but the ride must awesome has the lad behind them tattoo jump from one arm to the other or is it just me

  • Best line in a TV ad.
