Some neat, albeit brief footage of a UAL "Fan-Jet" "8" on the way up.
In the first of three scenes here, we see one of the few "Series 50s" to fly for United sporting the earlier "Black button" nose.
By the mid '60s, most of UAL's jet fleet were switched over to the "All white nose", as the company found a paint that would not hinder radar.
United was one the first airlines to sport this look, as the black nose would adorn most all other carriers for many years still to come.

Who can still remember the sound of these (in those days) big and beautiful machines? At least I did. It was a real treat...so much missed in these days..
