In January of 2008, Judge Patel of the Federal District Court San Francisco, ruled that The Military was in violation of the "National Preservation Act" for failing to evaluate the potential effects on the Dugong & ordered the US Defense Department to do so.
in Okinawa Dugong v. Gates No. 03-4350.
This case is significant because the US Military wants the Government of Japan to honor agreement, made 2 years prior to Judge Patel's Ruling in a US Federal Court.; by two countries that have changed leadership. The former President Bush & Secretary Rumsfeld and the former LDP of the Japanese Government, made this agreement which now is in reality a "Moot" issue, as the most current Federal Ruling, takes priority over the agreement made 2 years earlier.
The Ruling addresses the exact location where the US Military and the US Government want to move the Futenma Air Station, in obvious defiance of Judge Patel's ruling.
The US Military has been drilling in the coral reef in this area in preparation for getting their way, however the US Department of Defense has still not addressed the issue of Judge Patel's decision.
If the relocation of the Futenma Air Station is completed, the ocean environment will be destroyed and the potential destruction of the habitat of the Okinawan Dugong, as well as other valuable marine life in this region will become a reality. The dugong also known as manatee elsewhere in the world, are already on the endangered species list yet the US Military insists that the destruction of the Ocean environment is of little importance compared to getting their way. Marine Base Camp Schwab, already maintains a very large imprint on the entire peninsula, yet the Marines insist that the building of the two runways as well as helicopter pads by land filling the ocean is the best choice rather than move this training facility back to the USA.
The new Democratic Party of Japan needs to stand firm on this issue and insist on the move of the Futenma Air Station, out of Japan, or move it to the mainland of Japan as the only two areas of consideration or face the reality that they will be as responsible as the US Military in the "Conspiracy to subvert the law and contempt of court" by defying the ruling of a US Federal Court Judge.
A coverup in Political Agendas, not in the interest of the Okinawan People? What is really going on here?
THE US HAS NO REASON TO BE THERE!
ffs. This makes me so angry, you lot really take the piss sometimes.
Get off your high horse and try democracy for a change?

While the whole world is up rising and fighting for their freedom, the Okinawans need to do the same and protest for the rights of their own island. Not only did the Japanese exploit the Okinawans before WWII, now the American military is raping the the land and doing so with no disregard of the people. Okinawans need to fight and lead the people to liberation of this military industrialization of its island. Fight like the Taiwanese, like the Egyptians, like the Libyans! Free OKINAWA !

.....This place is wonderful and we should leave there! Let the main-land begin carrying some of the burden. Stop treating Okinawans like second-class citizens and be HONORABLE Japanese who move the base to YOUR island! Okinawans have paid enough. God bless all people in Henoko and Okinawa

....I continued walking along the road until it came out on a cliff over the ocean. I watched a HUGE bat fall out of a tree to take flight...He flew over the water and up the hill into a tree and attacked a rat or something!! These are memories I will have the rest of my life!

.....I remember the best soft tacos in the world at a small mom-n-pop place across from the bars...complete with John Denver on the Juke box! I walked at night along the small ocean road to the grave yard on the hill. I walked through the next village with the pig farm that scared me to death at night when I spooked all the pigs and they began running!...

.....I have walked your streets at night and enjoyed the peaceful silence, in the playground in Henoko, at the stadium seats, and in neighborhoods, listening to the Okinawa music played in the house. Okinawans need their lives back and their children need to grow up with the pride and honor of owning their own land and not being subject to an obnoxious American presence!

....there are many reasons to leave. That stupid American man in the video who said americans make good citizens was wrong...I am a christian now, but was NOT when I was in Henoko! So I apologize to the people of Henoko now for adding to the CANCER of young men in your town getting drunk, being loud, and attracting so many Filipino prostitutes to your island!...

I was in USMC at Schwab and Henoko in 1988-1989. I LOVE Henoko, the place is wonderful and the people are too! I snorkled the reefs there and came face to face with a huge lion fish-scary! baracuda circling over my head, Giant angel fish! and many hours of other memories under water. Camp Schwab should be closed and given back to the people of Henoko
