This ending is much better. It brings the movie to a logical conclusion and stays true to the original meaning behind it - the psychological damage suffered by Vietnam vets.

It is very easy to see, most of the modern wars were in faraway places, saying there's a threat to your country. But there never was. I read about it, Vietnam started because a ship which had nothing to do there was sinked. (really, this is it, to move hundreds of thousands?) Iraq started cus 9/11 happened. I know not that straight but yeah basically... What's the fucking connection?
