    Oh, Shut up. It's so cliche and obnoxious when people point shit like that out.

    There are plenty of awesome, upbeat songs out there with dark/cynical overtones, especially American songs. Right off the top of my head:

    Huey Lewis and the News - Hip To Be Square

    Bruce Springsteen - Born in the USA

    Doesn't make them any less upbeat or enjoyable.
