This is EvoGrid The Movie, a short 3D animation depicting a whimsical hypothetical future "evolution machine" wherein an "artificial origin of life" occurs in a grid-computing simulator and then a select entity is re-rendered in a molecular nanofabricator and given a "swimming test" in a beaker of real chemicals formulated to correspond to the digital simulator. Will it survive and thrive? In "deep" EvoGrids of the future, life evolved in the crucible of a virtual world could then be released out into the universe, going where no Earth life has gone before (and where we may then follow). Incredibly awesome.

How are you going to synthesize this complex 3D molecules ?! :)

Very nicely done! Up to the creation of "real" biology, this really reminded me of the Autoverse concept in the book "Permutation City", by Greg Egan

Wonderfully accessible rendition of this complex hypothetical. Implied here (and what makes this really interesting) is that as the critters evolve the evogrid itself evolves. As ALife simulators add their critters to this world, the interplay will be worth watching. . . .
