This is actually the reason I try to be as polite as possible while I'm on the internet... it's true, I don't truly know who am I talking to, a man, a woman, a child, an old man, or whether or not he may be taking seriously what am I saying, since it's just an internet message... but I always remember that he (or she) IS a person, and every person deserves to be respected. ^^

but if someone took the time to open up to you in person, in a place where you solicit an approach, it might be fair to reply in some friendly way...and its not about 'requirement' - but more about being kind. The distance and shield of the internet allows for a lower standard of behaviour that a person might take in real life. Its dehumanising. This video makes a good point I think...hence YT trying to get us to use real names...!

But she didn't tell them they were losers! She has every right to ignore dudes she doesn't think are right for her. Being mean in email to someone is different from being indifferent to someone you don't think is a good match; it'd be like if a guy hit on her at the bus station and she just ignored him. There's no requirement for her to respond, just like there'd be no requirement for a guy to respond in any of those situations.

Did you watch the video? If not, try watching it and re-read his comment. It's witty, you just don't see it.
